The Eneron Group focuses on hydrogen: new plant in Belpasso

An investment of almost 14 million for the construction of a 10 MW green hydrogen production plant in the industrial area of ​​Belpasso, in the province of Catania. It is the initiative of the Eneron Group, present in a more widespread way in Sicily and Sardinia with its subsidiaries Onda Più and Energit. Eneron, which is a prosumer company, has decided to bet on the production of hydrogen and oxygen “which already has its own well-established reference market with various applications starting with that in the healthcare sector” they explain.

«The scenario of green hydrogen production is already characterized by a strong capacity
attractiveness of Italy which has a widespread and widespread gas distribution network which in a subsequent phase could also be used to bring green hydrogen to the end user – says Luigi Martines, CEO of the Eneron Group –. Add to this that our country aims to invest 10 billion euros by 2030 for the installation of 5 GW and that we are already seeing similar extraordinary attention today also in the Sicilian region which intends to create a green hydrogen supply chain and to make the Sicily a Mediterranean hub. The Eneron Group, also thanks to the specific professionalism and skills at its disposal, in this scenario acts as a developer and programmer until the complete construction of the plant”.

The commissioning of the plant in the province of Catania is scheduled for the end of 2025 or at the latest for the first months of 2026 and will give work in the construction phase to around fifty direct and induced units: the plant (according to a conservative estimate made by the company on the use of 60% of the processing time actually available) will have a production capacity of approximately 850 thousand tonnes of hydrogen per year.

The choice of the site for the construction of the plant was strategic: the industrial area of ​​Belpasso was found to be suitable both for the availability of adequate water resources and for the presence of
important energy-intensive industrial activities that «could receive the green hydrogen produced
directly and without further processing thanks to dedicated pipelines. The other current distribution method to the end user is via tankers (in liquid form)”.
