If 2024 will mark the resumption of mergers and acquisitions, among the employment agencies it is Gi group holding that will lead the way. The Italian multinational in the labor market has in fact announced that it has completed the acquisition of the European staffing activities of Kelly, an American multinational specialized in this field. According to a Gi group press release, the operation, worth 130 million euros, will bring the turnover to over five billion.
International growth
For some years now, Gi group holding, of which Stefano Colli Lanzi is CEO as well as founder, has been increasingly projected towards international growth, both internally and externally. Thanks to this latest acquisition it will be able to offer a complete range of tailor-made solutions through 7 complementary brands (Gi Group, Grafton, Wyser, Gi BPO, Tack/TMI, INTOO, Jobtome) in over 30 countries around the world. Since 1998, this is the 51st acquisition in the history of the company which was supported by Baker McKenzie as legal advisor and Deloitte as tax and financial advisor. Under the terms of the agreement, Kelly will transfer the European staffing activities of its international operating segment to Gi Group Holding, which will provide services in 14 countries. The operation allows it to expand its activities in eleven countries, including France, Portugal and Switzerland, and also bring its services to Belgium, Luxembourg and Norway. It will also allow the company to strengthen its offering in the Life Sciences sector, in temporary work for white collar profiles and in the RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing) field. Stefano Colli-Lanzi states that «it is a truly very important step for Gi Group Holding, because it allows us to pursue our ambition to grow both organically and through strategic acquisitions. Kelly’s European staffing activity will strengthen our presence and capabilities in Europe, allowing us to further expand and capitalize on his experience in the region, while remaining faithful to our commitment to contribute to the positive evolution of the labor market ».
The ranking
Gi Group Holding thus continues to rise in the ranking drawn up by Staffing industry analysts, where it is the eighth staffing company at a European level and the fifteenth at a global level. If, however, we limit ourselves to the Italian market, considering the turnover, in the top five in first place is The Adecco group, followed by Randstad and then in third place by the Gi group. Followed by Manpower and Umana. According to data from Assolavoro, the association that brings together Employment Agencies, which produce 85% of the overall turnover linked to the provision of work, there are 2,500 branches throughout Italy.
