Fieg, automatic newspaper dispensers in IP petrol stations

2 min read

Automatic newspaper dispensers inside fuel filling stations. This is the crux of the agreement reported yesterday by Fieg, the newspaper publishers’ federation. The agreement between the Monrif Group and the Ip Gruppo api of the Brachetti Peretti family provides for the installation of automatic vending machines within which the newspapers of the publishing company led by Andrea Riffeser Monti will also be accompanied by those of the other main publishing groups.

It will therefore be a new touchpoint to aim to bring closer or at least keep the link between newspapers and reader-users as alive as possible. All this at a time when, on the one hand, the internet and digital products can distance us from the printed paper, on the other hand, the increasingly recognized need for qualified information can find an ally in everything that facilitates distribution and contact between product and audience of users-readers.

This is, after all, the meaning of a bet that will start from Bologna – with the expected expansion into other territories – and which will also obviously rely on the new concept and new use of service stations, with the growing electric mobility which inevitably also ends up extending the time it takes to visit the refueling stations themselves.

The new distributors, writes Fieg, will be “real automated newsstands” and “will in fact provide a wide selection of daily newspapers and periodicals” in a “historical moment in which over 25% of Italian municipalities do not have distribution points of newspapers”.

The initiative «represents a significant step forward in the promotion and protection of the right to information – declares Andrea Riffeser Monti, President of the Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers – offering a new and convenient opportunity to purchase your favorite newspapers in a familiar and accessible environment. The installation of the first newspaper vending machine in a service station represents the search for alternative solutions to facilitate the purchase of newspapers. We hope that this initiative will be accompanied by concrete intervention by the presidents of the Regions, the ANCI, all the mayors of Italy and the Government aimed at encouraging and supporting its diffusion in hospitals, stations, shopping centres, large offices to combat the desertification of newsstands, which is seriously undermining freedom of the press”.
