A 2023 full of tourists for the Capital among the intrinsic charm of Rome, history, major sporting and non-sporting events. Last year «arrivals reached 21 million, +8% compared to 2019 considered the best year for the hospitality industry, while presences were almost 49.2 million, +5.7% compared to the same year » said Alessandro Onorato, Councilor for Tourism of Rome Capital, speaking at the 20th edition of the Hotelier’s Day organized by Federalberghi. «Concerts, major sporting, art and fashion events – continues Onorato – have brought our city back to life, generating thousands of new jobs. Thanks to the work done by our administration today we can finally talk about structural growth and no longer occasional growth. In fact, all the main indicators confirm that growth will continue in 2024, 2025 and 2026 as long as the city remains as attractive as it is now.” The mayor of the capital Roberto Gualtieri raises the bar and aims for new records. «We are not satisfied with tourism: for Rome, overcoming the pandemic, growing and attracting, going above pre-Covid levels is not enough. Rome is unique, and as long as we are not number one we are not satisfied – he said -. The phase we are going through must not make us relax. It is a stimulus to move forward on all fronts: events, culture, vitality and Rome’s ability to combine its treasures with a vibrant scene. Our work must be on all fronts, concrete issues.”

The next challenges

In light of these results, Giuseppe Roscioli, president of Federalberghi Roma, looks to the next challenges. «2024 will be a fundamental, long period of preparation for the 2025 Jubilee, an event that will put the Capital before the eyes of the world like never before and in which Rome, and Italy itself, will play a lot in terms of international reputation. All forces in the field will have to contribute to the success of the Holy Year, from operators, to institutions, to politics, because in terms of image we can explode, but also suffer a tremendous boomerang effect if the city does not show itself at its best”.
