Paper, Sofidel goes shopping in the USA: it acquires a 65 thousand ton paper mill

Sofidel, world leader in the production of paper for hygienic and domestic use, is expanding and shopping in the United States. The company announced that it has acquired a paper mill from St Paper in Duluth, Minnesota.

According to a note, the plant has a capacity of 65 thousand tons per year and 80 employees, which will allow the group to immediately satisfy the increase in demand underway in the American country. The technology is of an advanced level, the machine, an Andritz, was started up last January and is highly efficient and fully operational.

The new investment follows a few months the one made in organic growth by Sofidel for the expansion of the integrated plant in Circleville, Ohio. The project, already underway, involves the construction of a new building intended to house a new machine (with a production capacity of 70 thousand tons per year) whose entry into operation is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025. By that date, with 200,000 tons of annual capacity, Circleville will become the most important Sofidel production hub globally.

The acquisition in Minnesota «is important and allows us to immediately satisfy the growth in demand, which will further consolidate during 2023 – declares CEO Luigi Lazzareschi -. What we are acquiring is a technologically cutting-edge plant, which further improves our geographical coverage and creates the conditions to strengthen and sustain growth in what is our main market.”
