Another step forward for the new Cagliari stadium dedicated to Gigi Riva. The Sardinia Region gives the green light to the program agreement (which brings with it an injection of resources equal to 50 million euros) aimed at the construction of the new sports facility which involves investments, between public and private, of over 157 million euros .

50 million from the region

The agreement provides for an allocation by the Region of 50 million euros to the Municipality of Cagliari and marks the start of the path that should lead to the final phase of the program. That is, the one that paves the way for the construction of the new stadium that should be built in place of the Sant’Elia.

«As we said from the beginning, we had already allocated these very important resources with the stability law – announces the President of the Region Christian Solinas -. We are the only region in Italy to have done so to give the citizens a new stadium, a space finally worthy of the support that the Sardinians can give to their favorite team. It is an outcome that concluded with the adoption of a resolution and the signing of the program agreement which will take place shortly.”

Another loan is planned

Another loan of the same amount is on the horizon: «As a Council we have presented an amendment within the current budget change, which at least as many resources can be allocated to regional sports facilities – adds the president -. For the other teams of the cities of Sardinia and for the world of amateurism, which in any case has an important social function in sport which is recognized by a specific regional law”. This will be followed by the decree of the President of the Region «which will definitively adopt the agreement which will be published in the Official Bulletin».

To realize the project of what the regional councilor for Sport, Andrea Biancareddu, has defined as “a symbolic stadium”, another 109 million euros will be needed, paid by the other parties involved: the municipality and private entrepreneurs. The project of the new structure envisages a capacity of 25 thousand seats, but is prepared for a subsequent expansion to 30 thousand. Furthermore, it has the possibility of hosting non-sporting events. The complex also includes spaces for a museum, bar and shop, gym/spa, offices and a hotel.
