Erasmus in Italy, agreement between Unical and Bicocca

1 min read

Calabria quickly grasps the challenge of Italian Erasmus: the EU program which finances youth mobility abroad, changes direction and remains within national borders, also thanks to the funds included in the budget by the government (10 million): thus Unical strengthens its collaboration with the Milan Bicocca University to host students from the Lombardy university.

The rector Nicola Leone considers it a great opportunity: «With Bicocca we already share teachers and research infrastructures. Now we will deal with the housing problem. We are a campus and the goal is to give the students who arrive a total experience. Because Erasmus is not only an academic dimension, but also a social and cultural one. Furthermore, to avoid misalignment of the exam sections, we are thinking of establishing mixed commissions with teachers from both universities”. Unical knows it can successfully play the hospitality card: the university is first in Italy for the number of accommodations. The 2,500 places available concern 16% of those enrolled, compared to 4% of the national average. «But we aim to reach 20% with the new residential district which will increase our accommodation by 500 places», adds the rector.
