The Designation Commission, in agreement with the Council of Ethics and Association Values and with the Special Board of Confederal Arbitrators, after having carried out all the checks on the documentation produced, did not detect any formally impeding elements and admitted all and four candidates for the presidency of Confindustria.

In alphabetical order, they are candidates Edoardo Garrone, Antonio Gozzi, Alberto Marenghi and Emanuele Orsini. All have exceeded the percentage threshold of support from 10% of the members of the General Council, required by the confederal statute. The calendar of hearings on the association system has been updated and the consultations will start at the end of next week and will conclude in the first ten days of March.

The calendar

The hearings of commission of essays which will evaluate the candidatures for the election of the president of Confindustria, examining how the consensus is oriented, will start with a meeting on 23 February in Turin at the Union of Industrialists. The calendar then includes stops on 24 February in Bologna (at Confindustria Emilia-Romagna), on 28 and 29 February in Rome (at the Confindustria headquarters), on 1 March in Milan (at Assolombarda) and on 8 March again in Milan (at Federchimica), on 9 March in Padua (at Confindustria Veneto Est) and on 11 March in Naples at Unione Industriali.

According to what was reported by Ansa, AdnKronos and Askanews, all four candidates for the presidency of Confindustria – as mentioned – “appear to have exceeded the percentage threshold of support from 10% of the members of the General Council, required by the confederal statute”. The commission of wise men wrote this in a letter – which Ansa was able to view – to the presidents of the system and the members of the general council. In particular, Edoardo Garrone, they point out, “has also certified that he has a consensus that exceeds 20% of the total votes that can currently be regularly exercised in the confederal assembly, a condition which legally determines his participation in the nomination vote” on the 4th April. At the starting line, at the center of the consultations of the wise men who will test the consensus to evaluate the candidatures, with Edoardo Garrone (Erg, president of Sole 24 Ore) admitted from now on to the designation vote of April 4 in the general council, therefore there are also Antonio Gozzi (Duferco, president of Federaiuto), and the current vice presidents of Confindustria Alberto Marenghi and Emanuele Orsini. The commission’s letter recalls that “at midnight on Monday 12 February the deadline for formalizing the candidatures for the renewal of the presidency of Confindustria expired”, and that as required by the statute the essays “in agreement with the Ethics and of the association’s values and with the Special Board of Confederal Arbitrators” have “carried out in recent days all the checks on the documentation produced, required by confederal legislation”. He then underlines: “No formally impeding elements have emerged.” All applications are admitted and will therefore now be subject to “discretionary evaluations which will determine personal choices and positioning”.
