Reading the data from the Business Register of the Chambers of Commerce for the North-East of the Peninsula (including Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia) allows us to grasp a certain dynamism within the distribution. In fact, in the third quarter of 2023, the area recorded 6,850 new registrations and 4,962 closures, obtaining a positive balance of +1,888 and a growth rate of 0.28% (placed below Lombardy but above the results of the South and the North-West, equal to +0.35%, +0.22% and +0.13% respectively). A similar argument can be applied to the total birth rate which, with a value of one new registration for every hundred businesses, is lower than the Lombard figure (+1.13)
but higher than the South (+0.88) and almost in line with the North-Western area (+0.99).

Relative to the different regions that make up the distribution, all close with a positive balance: +1,230 new businesses in Veneto (fourth at national level, after Lombardy, Lazio and Campania), +458 units in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol ( which ranks tenth) and +200 units for Friuli-Venezia Giulia (sixteenth). In terms of growth rate, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol rises up the ranking, reaching second place (with +0.41%, immediately after Lazio and before Lombardy), while, at a distance, Veneto is (sixth, with +0.26%)
and Friuli-Venezia Giulia (eleventh, +0.20%).

Looking at the provinces, six territories belonging to the eastern side of the north occupy the top 20 of the ranking in terms of balance between registrations and terminations: they are, in order, Verona (fifth, with +336 new registrations), Bolzano/Bozen (seventh; +288 ), Padua (eleventh, +254), Venice (fifteenth; +215), Vicenza (sixteenth; +214) and Treviso (twentieth; +199). Conversely, Belluno is the only province in the division to record a negative balance (-3 as the difference between terminations and new registrations, positioning itself 104th out of 111). If we consider exclusively the mountain municipalities – as defined by Istat, on the basis of the altimetric zones and phytosociological characteristics – both Trentino provinces rise to the top positions, with values equal to +288 for Bolzano/Bozen and +170 for Trento.

Finally, in relation to the sectors, the most significant change in terms of increase in the stock of companies (compared to the second quarter of 2023 and excluding the Tobacco Industry) occurred in the tertiary sector and, in particular, in the sectors linked to postal services and courier activities (+5.56%), to Air transport (+4.55%) and to Financial services activities (+2.84%). On the other hand, the loss recorded in telecommunications (-3.64%), in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products (-1.82%), in the manufacturing of clothing items, etc. is significant. (-1.29%) and in the manufacturing of computers and electronic products (-1.14%).
