Baglietto Navy (the division of the historic shipyard dedicated to Defense) together with Siman Yachts, a company specialized in the construction of steel hulls, has been awarded the contract for the construction of four 33 meter naval units, in steel, for the maneuver training activity (Tirma ships) of the Navy.

The supply acquired by the Navy division will be used for educational activities for students of the Livorno Naval Academy. The units, explains a note, “will have the objective of training personnel in relation to the seafaring and conduct aspects of navigation”.

Training ships

In particular, the note continues. «the boats will allow young students, in addition to familiarizing themselves with the “ship” environment, to also be able to acquire skills relating to kinematic and mooring maneuvers as well as safety activities».

In order to maximize the training purpose, the Tirma units will have characteristics similar to those of front-line naval units. In fact, they will be able to accommodate, in high living standards, a crew of 4 permanent people and a maximum of 20 people in training from the Naval Academy.

The units will be able to operate both in the open sea and in port waters, as well as in shallow waters, without tugboat assistance and in adverse sea conditions. The ships will have steerable propeller propulsion and will be able to reach a maximum speed of 15 knots.
