New organization and attraction program

To run fast, the Trentino foundation now counts on a new organization that brings together the 12 research centers in the areas of AI for Health, AI for Industry, AI for Society and Sensors for AI. And the intention – it was explained during the works – is to launch a careful program of attraction and growth of young researchers thanks to a Talent Development and Professional Empowerment plan (+50% of active agreements with universities and +20% of PhDs included in projects of the Foundation itself). But also strengthen the synergy with local and national businesses and the territory (3 new joint laboratories with companies and 4 new digital platforms in collaboration with the PA). Furthermore, despite the 14 already active programs of Mission 4.2 of the PNRR on topics such as artificial intelligence, Quantum Science & Technology and emerging infectious diseases, the Foundation intends to acquire new projects (+10%).

During the works, as mentioned, companies and institutions alternated. And after the ritual greetings from the hostess, the president of the Italian Stock Exchange, Claudia Parzani who guaranteed closeness to the companies “in this moment of great changes”, and those from the deputy mayor of Milan, Anna Scavuzzo, from the president of the autonomous province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, and the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, it was up to Roberto Viola, general director for digital policies of the EU Commission, to take stock of what is happening in Brussels: «Europe – he said – has taken its responsibility, unique in the world, has put in place the first regulation in the world on Artificial Intelligence (AI): a system of rules is needed and the EU has done the right thing: rules open to innovation and which respect rights” . At the same time, Viola explained that «Europe has already missed the data and Internet revolution, the artificial intelligence revolution cannot be missed: 4 billion have just been allocated for the development of AI with the aim of creating a system between knowledge, super calculation and business. Coexistence between academia, research and calculation center and businesses to create a circle. We need to wake up and work together with research centers and companies.”
