Ansaldo Nucleare at the forefront for the development of mini reactors in the EU

Ansaldo Nucleare is at the forefront of contributing to the European development of small modular reactors (i.e. mini fission reactors) and fourth generation nuclear power. This was confirmed yesterday to Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of the Ansaldo Energia (Aen) group, and Daniela Gentile, CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare, which is part of the group. And for this reason the company is also looking for around 30 new specialized collaborators.

Comparison on mini reactors

During the meeting with the minister, a note explains, there was a discussion regarding the announcement of the European alliance on SMRs, communicated on Tuesday 6th by the European Commission. Ansaldo Nucleare «has confirmed that it will participate in the alliance, after having contributed significantly to its creation, with its know-how and technological skills».

The role of the Italian company, in fields ranging from new units to decommissioningfrom work to extend the life of operational plants, to the development of new technologies and fusion, continues the note, «has been recognized by some of the main world leaders in the sector, with whom Ansaldo Energia has signed, in recent months , strategic collaboration agreements”.

Collaboration with Edf, Edison and Westinghouse

With EDF and Edison the group is working on potential industrial cooperation for the development of nuclear energy in Europe, in particular in the field of SMRs, while with Westinghouse and other European partners on the development and implementation of lead-cooled small modular reactorsfourth generation small modular reactors, lead cooled.”

In this context, Ansaldo Energia has started the search for professional figures, both with proven experience and younger, on whom to focus for the future, «who can contribute to the growth in research and implementation of new activities, both in the nuclear sector both in that of conventional energy”.
